Hubungan academic workload stress terhadap trapezius myalgia mahasiswa program studi sarjana kedokteran universitas udayana angkatan 2020-2022

Abstract

Background: Medical students undergo intensive education with a long study period to become doctors. Medical students often experience academic stress that can cause trapezius myalgia, which is pain, stiffness, and tension in the trapezius muscle due to posture, heavy loads, and repetitive movements. Medical students often experience this because of close assignment deadlines, long study durations, and the use of static and repetitive laptops/computers. The aim of the study is to determine the correlation between academic workload stress and trapezius myalgia in students of the Bachelor of Medicine Program at Udayana University Class of 2020-2022.

Methods: descriptive-analytic method with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out once per respondent. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling.

Result: most of the samples were female, with 139 people (71.3%), with an average height of 162.25 cm and an average weight of 58.22 kg. Based on the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescent questionnaire, the average score was 58.88 points, and the average score of the Nordiq Musculoskeletal Questionnaire for the whole body was 37.11 points. The results showed a relationship between academic workload stress and trapezius myalgia with an average difference of 4.837 (95%CI = 1.370-8.305) and statistically significant (p = 0.007).

Conclusion: This study found that academic workload stress (measured by Educational Stress Scale for Adolescent) is related to trapezius myalgia (measured by Nordiq Musculoskeletal Questionnaire) in students of the Bachelor of Medicine Program at Udayana University Class of 2020-2022.
