Abstract

Introduction: Endothelial dysfunction is one of preeclampsia theories associated with the inflammatory process and an increase in transforming growth factor surface receptors. This study aims to determine whether low TGF-β1 levels are a risk factor for preeclampsia.

Method: The research design used in this research is a case-control study. The research was conducted at the Emergency Room and Midwifery Polyclinic at Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital and Clinical Pathology Laboratory Prof. RSUP. Dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah Denpasar Bali, from February to July 2023. TGF β-1 levels were examined using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Data analysis in this study used the chi square test and ods ratio calculation.

Results: The mean TGF-β1 level found in pregnant women with preeclampsia was 181.03, whereas in normal pregnancies the mean was 631.18. TGF-β1 levels were found to be significantly lower in pregnant women with preeclampsia compared to normal pregnancies with an OR value of 4.75 and a p-value <0.05 (p=0.012).

Conclusion: Low levels of TGF-β1 in the serum of pregnant women are a risk factor for preeclampsia. Implications Low TGF-β1 levels describe the incidence of preeclampsia in pregnant women so that it can be an early predictor for detecting preeclampsia

Ngoerah dan Laboratorium Patologi Klinik RSUP Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah Denpasar Bali, mulai bulan Februari hingga Juli 2023.
