Karakteristik Pasien Pterigium di RSD Mangusada Badung Periode Januari 2021-Desember 2022

Abstract

Background: Pterygium or fleshy growth on the surface of the eye is a common ophthalmological disorder. Indonesia as a country with a tropical climate and high annual exposure to sunlight, has a relatively higher risk of pterygium compared to non-tropical countries. However, research discussing the characteristics of pterygium patients, especially in Bali Province, is still limited.

Method: This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional method using secondary data obtained from medical records of patients suffering from pterygium. The sampling technique uses total sampling. Data processing was carried out using the SPSS ver. 26 with univariate analysis.

Results: The research samples were 79 people with pterygium. Most pterygium patients fall within the age range of 18-65 years (86.1%). There were more female patients (63.3%) with pterygium. The majority of patients with pterygium work in the private sector (70.9%). Pterygium occurs more frequently unilaterally (75,9%). Patients with pterygium at RSD Mangusada Badung were predominantly diagnosed with grade IV pterygium (51,9%).  Pterygium patients more frequently received treatment with observation (54.4%). The surgical technique used to manage pterygium patients is conjunctival limbal autograft (100%). No cases of recurrence were found during the time of this research.

Conclusion: Pterygium cases at RSD Mangusada Badung for the period January 2021-December 2022 were dominated by the age range 18-65 years, female gender, private sector occupation, unilateral, grade IV, received observational treatment, surgical technique conjunctival limbal autograft to manage pterygium surgically, and there are no cases of recurrence.
