Gambaran klinis-histopatologi pasien karsinoma nasofaring di Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah (RSUD) Buleleng pada tahun 2021-Agustus 2023

Abstract

Introduction: Cancer that affects the nasopharynx's epithelial layer is called nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). NPC is ranked fifth globally in 2020 as the most prevalent malignancy. NPC is a cancer that is endemic, particularly in Southeast Asia and southern China. This study aimed to determine the clinical profile and histology of patients at Buleleng Regional Hospital with NPC from 2021 to August 2023.

Methods: This study, which employs a cross-sectional methodology to calculate the number of NPC cases at Buleleng Regional Hospital between 2021 and August 2023, is a retrospective descriptive study. Secondary data from the Buleleng Regional Hospital's Anatomical Pathology Laboratory and Medical Records Installation were used to collect these research data. Gender, age, the patient's primary complaint upon admission, and the histological type were among the information gathered. The analysis of research participant data who met the inclusion criteria was done with SPSS version 25.0 for Windows.

Results: There were 27 cases of NPC from nasopharyngeal biopsy examination. Cases of malignancy of the nasopharynx in men are 74,07 %. The highest number of cases is in the age range of 41-50 years. NPC patients in this study came with the chief complaint of neck lumps, namely 17 cases (62,96 %). The most common histopathological type was Nonkeratinizing Squamous Cell Carcinoma – Undifferentiated subtype in 25 cases (92,60 %).

Conclusion: NPCs are still quite high in Buleleng Regional Hospital, Bali with the clinical-histopathological profile of the majority of patients being men, old age, the chief complaint is a lump in the neck, with the histopathological type Nonkeratinizing Squamous Cell Carcinoma - Undifferentiated subtype.
